LAS VEGAS, Nev. — As the Journal reported Wednesday, the presidents of the 11 Mountain West Conference basketball members on Friday met and decided to reverse course on a December vote that would have cut teams from participating in the annual conference basketball tournament.
The league’s Board of Directors, composed of university presidents, had voted in December to cut a total of six basketball teams — three men’s teams and three women’s teams —and use a tournament format that invited only the top eight teams in the standings. Instead, the tournament will remain in its current all-inclusive, 11-team format moving forward.
