Alice Wright’s competitive demeanor has been on display since she was a young girl, racing her sisters up the stairs at their Worcester, England, home.
The competition carries greater consequences these days, but the resolve is not much different for the top runner on the No. 1-ranked University of New Mexico women’s cross-country team.
“I have a very competitive family,” Wright said. “Everything was a competition.”
That signature nature is visible on her face every time she runs, UNM coach Joe Franklin said. Something, he said, you can see in photos of her running.
Photos that embarrass her, Wright said.
