In the fall of 1950, the New Mexico Lobos opened their football season at Zimmerman Field in Albuquerque with a 78-0 romp over Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona). The townsfolk, no doubt, were excited about the team’s prospects.
They shouldn’t have been. The 1950 Lobos finished the season with a 2-8 record, losing their last seven games by a combined score of 276-50.
In 1960, UNM inaugurated University Stadium with a 77-6 trouncing of the University of Mexico.
