University of New Mexico football coach Danny Gonzales apologized at his press conference Tuesday for saying after Thursday’s game that his team needed to step on the opponents’ throat after building a 14-0 lead, adding that, “it’s not the right adage to use anymore.”
Gonzales said he was compelled to apologize about the term he used figuratively after he received an email from a UNM professor.
Gonzales said he appreciated the email, but would not say who it was from and what exactly the email said.
“It’s an old sports adage that I used,” Gonzales said, who is prepping his team to host rival New Mexico State on Saturday.
