Lobo women lose big at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team found some second-half offense Saturday — but it wasn’t nearly enough to escape a giant first-half hole.

Utah State used a 36-7 first-half blitz to build a cozy lead and took a 72-56 victory over the Lobos at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The red-hot Aggies shot 56 percent from the field and had three players score in double figures, led by Funda Nakkasoglu’s 17 points.

Cherise Beynon tied a career high with 21 points for the Lobos, who outscored USU in the final two quarters but could not recover from the Aggies’ huge run.
