The University of New Mexico women lost 69-68 to San Diego State on Monday in the Mountain West Conference tournament quarterfinal round at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fifth-seeded Aztecs took their first lead with 49 seconds left. Fourth-seeded UNM failed to score on its last two possessions. A layup attempt with two seconds left by Aniyah Augmon rimmed off, allowing San Diego State to survive.
The Lobos (20-12) now must wait to see if any other postseason opportunities such as the WNIT present themselves.
The Journal’s Ken Sickenger will have a full report later Monday and in Tuesday’s Journal.
