Lobo women capture a foul affair

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Free-throw contest, anyone?

And a poor one, at that?

Like it or not, that’s what fans got Saturday at the Pit where the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team outlasted Pepperdine by a 60-52 score.

The Lobos (6-3) led nearly all the way, most of the time by double-digits, but the contest slowed to a crawl in the second half thanks to a holiday concert of whistles. The teams combined for 55 fouls (four players fouled out) and 70 free throws before the final horn.

The teams combined to make just 36 of those foul shots and were 6-for-30 from 3-point range.
