ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Devon Williams the UNM basketball player isn’t much of a talker.
But Devon Williams the new student coach isn’t about to cut his former Lobo teammates any slack in practice.
“Oh, no doubt,” Williams said Thursday with his usual ear-to-ear smile. “I’ve got to yell at them.”
With a new coach’s whistle around his neck and a practice schedule folded into his sweat pants, the first day of the rest of Williams’ basketball career began Thursday afternoon in the at UNM’s Rudy Davalos practice facility.
The 6-foot-8 forward learned Wednesday his playing days were over when he was diagnosed with congenital spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal canal).
