ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — His name is Isaiah Brown, but everyone just calls him — for obvious reasons — I.B. Initially, he looked to be a full-time starter for the New Mexico Lobos.
That he has started only five of 34 games during his UNM career is not a commentary on the junior cornerback’s talents. It’s more a statement on the physical nature of the game he plays.
Shoulder, hamstring and ankle injuries have hampered him throughout his career. You can’t start a game if you can’t play at all, and Brown has had 14 DNPs (did not play) — 13 for injuries, one for an academics-related suspension — since coming to Albuquerque in 2013.
