ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Another day, another comeback victory for the University of New Mexico baseball team.
Granted, Sunday’s 7-4 win over Fresno State couldn’t match the dramatics of the previous day’s extra-inning, 14-13 classic, but UNM coach Ray Birmingham and his players found it satisfying enough. This time New Mexico rallied from a 3-1, sixth-inning deficit to win its fourth straight game and improve to 15-3 in its last 18 games.
Sunday’s triumph also gave the Lobos (23-9, 12-3) a three-game sweep of the Bulldogs and sole possession of first place in the Mountain West standings. The teams came into the series tied for first place but UNM walked away with a three-game advantage and a potential tiebreaker edge because the Lobos and Bulldogs (21-12, 9-6) do not meet again in the regular season.
