Chris Lewis hadn’t played offense since high school, and the game in question back then was basketball – not football.
Then, some 10 days ago, Lewis was approached by the University of New Mexico coaching staff about switching from defensive end to offensive guard.
Excuse me?
The Lobos had signed Lewis in February out of Riverside (Calif.) City College, where as a defensive lineman he’d made 40 tackles with four sacks and five tackles for loss in 2014. At Riverside and at Compton (Calif.) High School, offensive linemen were the people he ran over en route to the quarterback.
