ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico alumna Courtney Frerichs was named Wednesday by the Bowerman Advisory Board as one of 10 semifinalists for the Women's Bowerman Award, the highest individual honor in collegiate track & field.
Frerichs is the first Bowerman Semifinalist from New Mexico and earned the distinction after setting the NCAA record and winning the individual title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last week at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
After sitting out the indoor season, the recent UNM graduate from Nixa, Missouri, had a dominant year outdoors for the Lobos, twice running under 9 minutes, 30 seconds in the steeplechase en route to setting the new NCAA record of 9:24.
