Former Lobo Delaney signs deal to play ball in Poland

Next stop: Poland.

Former UNM guard Deshawn Delaney, who played for the Lobos men’s basketball team the past two years and was the team’s leading scorer this past season as a senior, said he fulfilled a lifelong dream this weekend when he signed his first professional basketball contract.

Delaney on Saturday inked a one-year contract with Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski, a team in the Polska Liga Koszykówki (Polish Basketball League). Financial terms were not disclosed.

“I’m just really excited,” said Delaney, who averaged 11.7 points per game this past season for UNM before a broken hand led to his missing the final two games of his college career.
