SAN DIEGO, Calif.— For the third straight year, The University of New Mexico softball team won its Mountain West opener, this time against the San Diego State Aztecs by the tune of 3-1.
The first hit of the game at San Diego Softball Stadium on Friday evening was all the offense UNM would need in a game in which all four runs scored between both teams occurred in the opening frame.
The Lobos didn't allow Aztec starting pitcher Marissa Moreno to settle into the game before tacking runs on the board, loading the bases with the first three at-bats of the game.
