What a season the Mesquite High School football team had in 2012.
The Skeeters went 11-1, going undefeated during the regular season before losing in the second round of the Texas Class 5A playoffs to the eventual state champion.
Quarterback Alex Cooper threw for 3,055 yards and 26 touchdowns. His two favorite targets, Rashard Higgins and Dameon Gamblin, combined for 118 receptions – 69 for Higgins, 49 for Gamblin – good for 1,852 yards and 16 TDs.
Now, flash forward.
Cooper plays basketball at Arkansas-Fort Smith. Gamblin plays wide receiver for New Mexico, where the past two years he has caught four passes for 32 yards and no touchdowns.
