Football, University of New Mexico football coach Bob Davie said several times this week, is an unforgiving game.
Well, yes, but not always.
Twice this season, the football gods have forgiven Davie’s Lobos for playing perfectly awful first halves – then permitting them to rally for victories.
Those same football gods, Davie and his players rightfully might point out, help those who help themselves.
In those games against New Mexico State and Hawaii, the Lobos tightened their defense and put up enough points to win. That’s why UNM enters today’s game at San Jose State with an overall record of 4-3 (not 2-5) and a Mountain West Conference ledger of 2-1 (not 1-2).
