ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Was Saturday’s Gildan New Mexico Bowl a preview of bigger and better things to come for the UNM football program? There is no logical reason to think otherwise.
But then, who ever said football is logical?
The New Mexico Lobos left the field at University Stadium disappointed with a defeat, but feeling good about their season — and themselves. The Lobos went toe-to-toe with the Arizona Wildcats of the big, bad Pac-12 Conference and almost completed a second-half comeback before losing 45-37.
New Mexico’s final, 7-6 record constitutes the program’s first winning season since 2007, which also was the last time UNM played in a bowl game.
