ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Rich Rodriguez was born in Grant Town, W.Va., about 88 miles and a long football pass from Pittsburgh, where a fellow by the name of Bob Davie grew up.
And so it came to pass that Davie, not quite 11 years Rodriguez’s senior, found himself coaching the Notre Dame Fighting Iris
h on a rainy Oct. 13, 2001, in South Bend, Ind. Across the way, in his first year as head coach of his beloved West Virginia Mountaineers, was Rodriguez.
And now they meet again. Two guys from deep in mining and steel country will coach football teams at the Gildan New Mexico Bowl next week.
