The 2018 Winter Olympics will begin with the pageantry of the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 9 and continue until the torch is extinguished on Feb. 25, and between those dates, Americans are expected to compete for medals on the ice, the ski slopes and snowboard halfpipe. That includes several with New Jersey ties.
The Olympics are always a sporting event with a political backdrop, and with host city Pyeongchang, South Korea, just 80 miles from the North Korean border, that will be especially true this year. Plus, there are tensions with the Russians, who are barred from competing under their flag due to sanctions following a massive doping scandal.
