NEWARK -- The Devils want to see a more consistent defensive presence from defenseman Damon Severson.
Severson will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season when the Devils host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
The blue liner signed a six-year, $25 million contract as a restricted free agent prior to training camp, but at 23 years old, the Devils are still willing to hold him out if they want more from his game.
"He's another young guy in our organization developing as a defenseman," Devils coach John Hynes said.
