Why Devils are banking on prospects to help team take next step

It's clear prospects are going to make an impact on the 2018-19 version of the . Following a quiet offseason without any trades or major free-agent signings, that's the most likely path for the team heading into September's training camp.

That doesn't mean the Devils are panicking about their chances of getting back into the postseason for the second straight season.

"We were a young team last year and you saw how many young guys stepped up and played key roles," forward Kyle Palmieri said. "In order to be a successful franchise year in and year out, you have to have those guys you drafted and come up through your farm team, come in as 20, 21-year-olds out of juniors and put themselves into an NHL lineup.
