The Brandon Wheat Kings drew first blood in Game 1 of their WHL Championship, beating the Seattle Thunderbirds, 3-2, in overtime on Friday.
Tanner Kaspick notched the winner at 6:22 of the extra session, securing a 1-0 series lead on home ice. Game 2 is Saturday in Brandon.
The Wheat Kings opened the scoring late in the first period on Reid Duke's power-play goal, but went down 2-1 in the opening minute of the third. WHL playoff leading scorer Nolan Patrick evened things up for the Wheats, 2-2, at 4:50.
Shots were 42-33 for the Wheat Kings, including a 27-6 edge over the third period and overtime.
