Devils defenseman Will Butcher scored a shorthanded goal in Team USA's 3-2 exhibition win over Denmark on Tuesday in Herning, Denmark, in preparation for the upcoming IIHF World Championships.
The significance of that goal? Butcher didn't record a shorthanded point during 81 games as a rookie with the Devils in 2017-18.
The defenseman also added two assists on Tuesday. in his first exhibition game in preparation for the tournament.
That lack of shorthanded points came from a simple lack of opportunities, since Butcher played a total of just four minutes on the penalty kill all season, which comes out to about three seconds per game.
