One of the biggest questions heading into Devils training camp is the health status of goalie Cory Schneider and his potential availability for the start of the regular season.
Schneider had offseason surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left hip. The procedure, which was performed in early May, carried a five-month recovery period. That timetable put Schneider's return right around the start of the regular season, which opens on Oct. 6 when the Devils play the Edmonton Oilers in Sweden.
The good news is Schneider has been skating with teammates in New Jersey in recent weeks, meaning he's far enough along in his rehab to get on the ice and participate in some drills.
