Was any Devil more mishandled in 2014-2015 than Tuomo Ruutu? A solid scorer and tremendous two-way player throughout his career, Ruutu fell flat last season and may now be on the outside looking in with preseason looming.
The Finnish forward impressed in his ten-year career, scoring at a cool clip of 0.53 points per game, before arriving in New Jersey. In 2014-2015, his first full season as a Devil, Ruutu saw his average ice time fall by over five minutes. Instead of playing with talented forwards like Jordan Staal and Jeff Skinner, Ruutu played most of his shifts with Jacob Josefson, Jordin Tootoo, and Michael Ryder.
