Plain and simple, New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes knew his team's work at the faceoff dot wasn't good enough a year ago.
Through the first two games of the season, a small sample size, that number has flipped for the Devils. Two of New Jersey's top three centermen are winning faceoffs at higher than 50 percent, a far cry from last season when the team won just 47 percent overall at even strength.
The team took last year's poor percentage seriously, Hynes said, and took measures in the offeseason to improve it.
"We knew that wasn't good enough," Hynes said before the Devils Sunday game against the San Jose Sharks.
