Would you want your favorite college team to hang a championship banner in the rafters if, in a few years, they would have to pull it back down in disgrace?
That was a question I asked Rutgers fans last week, just hours after news broke that this hypothetical situation might become the reality for Seton Hall. The Pirates won a Big East title after Isaiah Whitehead arrived on campus. Now, Whitehead is one of the prominent players mentioned in a Yahoo Sports report that outlines $65,000 worth of loans he allegedly received from a former NBA agent.
I wrote a column that Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard can't claim ignorance here, because it was clear to everyone who follows basketball recruiting that he was inviting problems when he recruited the star guard and Tiny Morton, his high school coach, in 2014.
