Taylor Hall and rookie Will Butcher scored two goals apiece, and the Devils moved to the brink of their first playoff berth since 2012 with a 5-2 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.
The Devils moved within two points of ending their playoff drought by winning their third straight game and sixth in seven. A regulation loss by the Panthers against the Predators later Tuesday night would have clinched the postseason for the Devils.
