NEWARK — The Yankees have set the standard for retiring uniform numbers. They've already retired 17 numbers, with three more to follow this summer and Derek Jeter's No. 2 on the horizon.
What if the Devils took the Yankees' lead when it comes to retiring numbers? Would Sergei Brylin's No. 18 be raised to the rafters? How about No. 22 to honor Claude Lemieux or No. 16 for Bobby Holik?
So far, the Devils have retired Nos. 3 (Ken Daneyko), 4 (Scott Stevens) and 27 (Scott Niedermayer. Martin Brodeur''s No. 30 will follow, probably in 2015-16.
