As August starts this week, the National Hockey League offseason will enter its real lull. It may already be there. Thoughts and hopes of Erik Karlsson being dealt or understanding Artemi Panarin’s future in Columbus have all but went mute. At least last year had the Will Butcher Sweepstakes, there is no hot collegiate prospect who didn’t sign with the team that drafted them out of the market to draw plenty of interest. For several teams, they are basically done with what they need to do with signings before training camp in September. The New Jersey Devils are just about there.
