According to the team’s website and a statement from Ray Shero, “The surgery was successful and he will be out indefinitely. There is no current timetable for his return, but we are optimistic that Patrik will return this season.”
My first thought when I hear knee surgery at this point in a player like Elias’ career is…season ending. Elias is 39 and nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career with the Devils. With his age comes a longer healing process, longer rehab and longer to get back in skating shape.
I hope he can make a return to the Devils, but I’m doubtful it will happen this season, and with his contract up at the end of the season, well…who knows.
