The Devils made this trade in a salary cap move, which was announced on the team website by Ray Shero. Paul Thompson and Graham Black are prospects who the Devils were willing to deal. Both have spent their young professional careers in the AHL and haven’t made a case to crack New Jersey’s NHL roster as of yet. The trade works out for both teams involved, giving the Panthers salary cap space and netting the Devils a 2nd-round pick in 2018.
