New Jersey Devils: 2016-17 NHL Salary Cap Set at $73 Million

The cap increased from $71.4 million a year ago to the new current number. What does this mean for the New Jersey Devils? Well, they are nowhere near going over that cap number, so they don’t need to worry about that. New Jersey is a franchise more concerned with the salary cap floor, the minimum amount a team must spend in order to avoid penalty. The cap floor has been set at $54 million, up from $52.8 last season. At the moment, the Devils have a salary cap hit of $43.5 million overall, and the 2nd most cap space in the league, only behind Arizona.
