MONTREAL -- Torrey Mitchell scored a short-handed goal in the second period to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night.
Captain Max Pacioretty also scored for Montreal (23-16-3), which was playing its first home game in nearly three weeks. Mike Condon made 19 saves for the win.
Adam Henrique responded for the Devils (20-16-5), who got 23 saves from Cory Schneider.
Mitchell scored the winner shortly after Canadiens forward David Desharnais missed a penalty shot high and wide late in the second period.
