Kinkaid makes 28 saves in U.S. opener vs. Canada at worlds

Keith Kinkaid made 28 saves for Team USA in its preliminary round opener against Canada at the IIHF World Championship in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Friday.

David Warsofsky set up Patrick Maroon (Edmonton Oilers) for the Americans’ lone goal in the 5-1 setback. Warsofsky registered one shot and logged 16:48 of ice time.

Devils prospects, defenseman Steven Santini (11:33 TOI) and forward Miles Wood (5:16 TOI), also skated for the U.S.

The Canadians outshot the Americans, 33-25.

"I thought we competed hard against a very good hockey team," head coach John Hynes told USA Hockey’s official site.
