NEWARK, N.J. – There's been an information renaissance of sorts in the NHL with a number of teams recently hiring personnel specifically tasked with handling analytics.
The New Jersey Devils are one of them, having hired Sunny Mehta to be their director of analytics after the 2013-14 season.
John Hynes, introduced as the Devils coach on Tuesday, said he's going to use whatever information is at his disposal.
"Analytics is something we didn't use a ton at the American Hockey League. I know we have a really good system here, and that's something that we will use or sure," Hynes said.
