Artur Gavrus and Belarus are through to the quarterfinals of the IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic.The Belarusians punched their ticket to the next round with a 3-2 win over Norway in Tuesday’s Group B action at CEZ Arena in Ostrava. They now head to Prague to take on Canada, which won Group A.
Belarus (4-0-2-1, 14 pts) struck three times on the power play for a 3-0 lead before holding off a Norwegian rally. They finished fourth in Group B to reach the quarters for the second straight season.
Gavrus, the Devils’ sixth-round pick in 2012, finished fourth for Belarus in preliminary-round scoring with five points (2g-3a) in seven games, and tied for the team lead in shots on goal with 17.
