Devils first-year general manager Ray Shero made an interesting move on the opening day of free agency, signing former Rangers defenseman John Moore to a three-year, $5 million deal, carrying an annual salary-cap hit of $1.67 million.
Moore, 24, played parts of the three seasons with the Blueshirts before getting sent to the Coyotes this past March in the deal that brought back Keith Yandle. The Illinois native was originally the No. 21 pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2009 draft, and came to the Rangers in the trade that sent Marian Gaborik to Columbus.
Moore was set to be a restricted free agent, but he was not given a qualifying offer by the rebuilding Coyotes and thus was made an unrestricted free agent.
