Former Devils coach Larry Robinson had cancer scare

As the Devils move further away from their glory days when people like Lou Lamoriello, Jacques Lemaire, Pat Burns, Martin Brodeur and Scott Stevens were so vital to the team's success, there was some very encouraging news for one former giant of the franchise.

Larry Robinson, who coached the Devils to the 2000 Stanley Cup championship and was Lemaire's assistant coach during the 1995 Cup run, underwent a cancer scare in late June when he was diagnosed with melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.

After aggressive treatment at NYU Cancer Center in New York, Robinson was pronounced cancer-free last month.
