The New York Islanders named former Devil Scott Gomez as an assistant coach on Tuesday.

Gomez officially retired from the NHL prior to the 2016-17 season, and he served as an NHL Network analyst during his first season after hanging up the skates.

Gomez is one of the coaching staff shakeups the team expected after lifting the interim tag off head coach Doug Weight after the season.

"Scott brings an immense amount of hockey knowledge to our coaching staff," Weight said in a release. "His offensive instincts, expertise on the power-play and the way he could control the game with his skating and smarts, are all key elements that we want implemented into our group.
