While the Devils were busy adding a pair of players during the opening hour of free agency, David Schlemko found a new home.
Schlemko agreed to a four-year, $8.4 million contract with the San Jose Sharks, the team announced Friday.
The Devils signed forward Vernon Fiddler to a one-year contract. He is a veteran of the Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes and Nashville Predators.
The 29-year-old defenseman played one season with the Devils, finishing with 19 points in 67 games. He's played eight seasons in the NHL with stops with the Arizona Coyotes, Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames.
