Devils sign 2016 1st-round pick Michael McLeod

The Devils agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with 2016 first-round pick Michael McLeod, the team announced Friday.

McLeod was the 12th overall pick in June's NHL Draft after the Devils traded down from the 11th overall pick, swapping with the Ottawa Senators.

Michael McLeod used his quiet, driven and hard-working mentality to become a first-round NHL pick. Now he'll use that same approach to work his way up with the New Jersey Devils.

The 18-year-old center finished with 21 goals and 40 assists last season with the Mississauga Steelheads.

McLeod stood out during Devils' development camp in July, scoring a goal in an intra-squad scrimmage and also winning the 3-on-3 competition with a shootout goal.
