The Devils placed forward Marcus Johansson (ankle bruise) on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 9, and recalled forward Nick Lappin from Binghamton in the AHL.
Johansson suffered his ankle bruise blocking a shot in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. He has not skated since the injury.
This will mark Johansson's second trip to IR this season. He missed all but 58 seconds of one game in November with a concussion.
With Johansson, Kyle Palmieri and Taylor Hall all slated to miss Thursday's game against the Montreal Canadiens, the Devils were left with 11 healthy forwards.
