The Devils on Friday claimed forward Jean-Sebastien Dea off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Countless players have gone to and passed through waivers over the past week while teams trimmed their training camp rosters. The Devils decided to make a move to claim Dea.
Like several other current and now former Devils who have come to New Jersey under GM Ray Shero and coach John Hynes, Dea has ties with the two from their days with the Penguins.
Dea was signed to his entry level contract by Shero when he was Pittsburgh's GM, and then he played his first pro season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2014-15 -- Hynes' last season as the AHL team's coach before he became Devils head coach prior to the 2015-16 season.
