Devils forward Brian Boyle won the 2018 Masterton Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best displays perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
Boyle was announced as the winner on Wednesday night at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas. He was voted as the Devils' nominee for the award in March and became a finalist in April.
Given Boyle's tests on and off the ice over the course of the 2017-18 season, it was no surprise to see the first-year Devil recognized.
Following Boyle's first day at Devils training camp, before he ever formally skated with the team, he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.
