Devils forward Brian Boyle was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, a rare but treatable form of cancer.
Dr. Michael Farber, the Devils' team internist and Medical Director of Executive Health at Hackensack University Medical Center said Boyle's diagnosis came in the early stages of the disease. CML affects the bone marrow and is treated with oral medication.
Boyle plans on playing through his treatment, and he said his mindset is to be ready for the Devils' season opener on Oct. 7.
"My wife and I, we've had a few long nights," Boyle said.
