Devils forwards Blake Coleman and Stefan Neosen both filed for player-elected salary arbitration on Thursday, ahead of the NHL's 5 p.m. deadline.
AHL forwards Nick Lappin and Kevin Rooney were eligible, but they did not apply for arbitration.
Coleman and Noesen are restricted free agents after receiving qualifying offers from the Devils in June. The two sides can and will continue negotiating in the coming weeks, and they can avoid arbitration hearings by reaching a deal.
Hearings are typically held toward the end of July, and in most cases, deals are made before a hearing is needed.
