NEWARK - The summer was difficult for Kyle Quincey.
The veteran NHL defenseman waited patiently for his opportunity on a new team after the Detroit Red Wings elected not to bring him back after playing the last four-plus seasons there.
But nearly a week after NHL teams reported to training camp, Quincey got the opportunity he was hoping to receive, signing a one-year deal with the Devils.
"It wasn't the easiest summer. First time in this situation, but definitely really happy when I got the call and definitely thrilled to be here," Quincey said on Thursday.
