The Devils’ first-year general manager Ray Shero certainly has his work cut out for him at the start of this offseason.
New Jersey has approximately $22 million of space under the salary cap, and is committed to just 16 players for next season. From last year’s team, there are seven unrestricted free agents, with Shero already saying he wasn’t going to resign Scott Gomez.
Qualifying offers were sent to forward Stefan Matteau, who will have a good chance to make the team out of training camp, along with defensemen Eric Gelinas, Seth Helgeson and Adam Larsson, all of whom are expected to contribute at some level.
