The Soo Greyhounds (OHL) have named Devils prospect Blake Speers their captain for 2015-16.
Speers, New Jersey's third-round selection at this year's NHL Draft and a Sault Ste. Marie native, had been serving as an alternate.
“Over the last few weeks we have seen our young leadership group take big steps on and off the ice," Greyhounds head coach Drew Bannister said in a team release. "Blake has been one of those leaders in the group that we feel will lead our team in the right direction in the future with the support of the other captains in the room.
